99 ram 2500 w cummins

The tack jumps around and it runs sluggish when running down the road. When I start it in the morning it runs fine for a while but it gets worse after about 20 miles of driving. It wil also die when ideling. Any ideas?

Re: 99 ram 2500 w cummins

For the sluggish part the first thing that comes to mind is when was the fuel filter changed? See if you can find someome to check the lift pump pressure. [the electric pump between the tank and injector pump] This is critical as if it wears out and low or no pressure it can take out your injector pump [$1500.oo or so] Also check for codes....Not sure about the tach jumping though......Is there white or blue smoke on start up? White smoke indicates there could be air in the fuel lines from a leak somewhere. It wont show a drip or anything as the fuel is sucked through the line instead of being pushed. Does it smoke when driving? Black smoke when going down the road could be a leak at one of the fittings on the pipe from the turbo to the intercooler or to the intake manifold....If not any of that...take it to a garage that has a GOOD diesel mechaniac......
