Re: code deleating
No, deleting codes will not make your car faster, it just gets rid of the Check Engine Light.

Re: code deleating
No...and your friend should never talk about cars again. Deleting a CEL does nothing more than getting rid of the error code, it does not fix whatever problem he had to trigger the code.

Re: code deleating
when i first read this it sounded like someone deleted the governor on his ride. at least thats what i think its called, cause getting rid of that would let him get up to a higher speed. or i could be totally wrong

Re: code deleating
They might have messed with something in the computer system, but that's not possible on our cars. So no, you can't.

Re: code deleating
Well acutally, when the CEL gets reset, so does the ECU. So it may seem faster, depending on what's causing the problems to begin with. Like when my EGR throws a CEL every now and then, the car runs like crap. I get it reset, and then it's fine. The ECU is back in "learning mood". So it's grabbing info from all over again. Basically, fix what is causing the CEL and that'll get the car back running top notch.

Normally, problems that cause the ECU to drop into limp mode have extremely short drive cycles to keep the motor safe. It is very possible that resetting the CEL made the car run normal again. Either way, you really need to stop driving the car because problems causing the ECU to run in limp mode need to be addressed.

Re: code deleating
i learned the hard way that if you delete the CEL it will show up for a SMOG test as having been recently turned off.
and the speed govn'r is a jumper on the ECU, a real life part, not a program code. take it off or move it and you are good for a bit more over 135. i got my car back from the shop and they forgot to hook up the speedo, so no govn'r. redlined 5th with the top down, 24psi on the gauge. fast enough to be scared. but a cool scared. niiice. |

Re: code deleating
You can either get a GSX ECU or clip resistors R255 and R256. These are the Configuration Resistors that control the governor.
