2000 intrigue pcm

my intrigue has has alot of trouble starting. it doesnt do this every time, biu often. when it does it, it will fire then ill have to give it gas and rev it up. it sounds like its about 3000 rpms, but rpg gauge doesnt move. once the gauge move i can let off the gass and it runs fine. i have no service lights on. first thing i did was replace the air filter and spark plugs. 2 days later when it happened again, i pulled the new plugs out and they were burnt and black. i took it to the dealer and they said the PCM(powertrain control module) was bad. they wanted $350 for the part and 75 to install. i ordered the pcm from autozone, and put in myself. 2 days later, same problem. i really dont want to take it back to the dealer and pay for another diagonostic when ill prolly get the same answer. anyone have any ideas of what might be wrong? or what could cause the pcm to go bad if it even is? like i said, no engine lights, so i cant get codes from auto zone.

Re: 2000 intrigue pcm

did your dealer use a Tech2 diagnostic on your car? That is the $5K diagnostic tool that GM dealers/service use. Find one that uses the Tech2 if they did not.

the Tech2: -other scanners cannot do what the Tech2 can.

you are probably looking at $80 for having your car scanned with the Tech2.

Are you using an oiled filter (K&N etc) on your Intrigue? -Do not use an oiled filter on the Intrigue = bad. Do not use silicones under the hood of the Intrigue either.

Re: 2000 intrigue pcm

I just had a similar problem a few weeks ago with a 99 Intrigue, 3.5 liter with 88,000 miles. No engine light, intermitent start problems, sometimes needed to accelerate to keep it running, or 2 or 3 no start and then starting right up. Then it may start fine the next few time before a repeat of the problem. I had a passlock ignition module installed, negative. They then installed an ignition switch . This is what the part they put in looks like:

The problem was solved 100%. They took the ignition module back out also and put the original back in which saved me some $$. Hope that this helps.

Re: 2000 intrigue pcm

ive been pretty busy last month, but am back to working on this car. still same problems. when it starts and runs rough like it was, ive noticed more smoke from tail pipe than usual. also when its trying to fire, sometimes all the guages will spaz out. like the mph wil shout all the way around and bounce a bit, same with rpm. then when it does fire, rpm will read 0 untill it comes out of it. i put new plugs in, and again are burnt and black already. i used bosch platinum this time. and now its started have this same problem while im driving, not just at start. when it does this, i have to floor the gas untill it comes out of it, then it runs fine. like i said b4, i have
changed the PCM like the dealer diagnosis said was wrong, with no difference.

Re: 2000 intrigue pcm

pay the $25 and get alldatadiy and go thru all the information they have.

Go with the GM dealer plugs - nothing else.

All the plugs were black? Not just 1 or 2.

I would get an OBD2 scanner. <$100 or borrow one.

i have no engine lights coming on to get codes from. i dont know what an OBDS scanner is, but i cant imagine for $100 it works better than the $5,000 diagnostic tool that gm uses, yes, they all were black. i will get the delco plugs, but i dont see how that can cause all the gauges to act up while its running bad.

Question Re: 2000 intrigue pcm

Hello all,

I have a similar problem. My 2000 intrigue gl has all of the syptoms described above at startup. It started around 93k However it has gotten worse in the last several thousand (yes thousands plural) miles (now at 118k). It has developed a misfire at cruising speeds with and without the cruise control. It seems to be worst when cruising around 60-75mph in overdrive (~2k rpm). It throws a code after about 5 misfires. It is always a different cylinder that misfires. It eventually goes away after a couple hundred miles. I have had plugs+wires replaced recently @ 109k, injectors flushed and inspected, and 2 seperate O2 sensors replaced... still there. Could it all be one big problem or are they seperate issues?

Oh yeah.. everything is completely stock... except the stereo.
