dual exhaust

I plan on converting my 98 grand cherokee laredo 4.0L to dual exhaust from the CAT back (I will be removing the CAT however and replacing it with a test pipe). Has anyone ever done this to their Jeeps at all? I really don't want to performace even though that does come with dual exhaust but every car I have had that did not have dual exhaust (including a 92 cadillac deville) I converted them to dual exhaust because they run smoother and breathe better.

So has anyone had any experience with dual exhaust on a Grand Cherokee?

Re: dual exhaust

thats where the performance comes in.cause you are getting rid of the stock muffler which is very restrictive. really doesnt matter if you run duals or not. getting rid of the cat is a good idea but I would either replace it with a high flow cat or a resonator. otherwise your exhaust will sound very raspy.

What would you prefer? See I am used to putting on duel exhaust on vehicles I had/have that have V8s in them. The Jeep is an I6. I was thinking of a resonator or a test pipe.

Re: dual exhaust

You'll probably just slow it down with the extra weight. Since it's an I-6 the downpipe is made to exit in one direction. Sure you could split it but that would only really benefit if you removed the catalytic converter and put on smaller, less restrictive mufflers. Have to think of a place to put your 02 sensors. If you do it, post up pics.

I have an idea what to do with the O2 sensors. I did this with my old 1995 Lincoln Town Car when I took the CATs off of that and it worked. I took out the O2 sensors and spliced the wires together so it wouldn't throw a code. When the car went for inspection, the computer was reading the factory settings from the O2 sensors that weren't even there for the emissions test and the car passed. I am going to try the same thing with the Jeep and see what happens. But yeah once it STOPS SNOWING IN PA IN THE MIDDLE OF APRIL I will do the job and post pictures.

Re: dual exhaust

Cool. I'm anxious to see it. I found a stainless header for the 4.0L but it's like $500. That's a bit much for a few extra ponies for a Jeep. If my exhaust ever rusts off I think I'm going to just run a nice Dynomax or Flowmaster after the cat with a turn down and do away with the extra tail piping.
