Re: "Check Engine" Light
Ok All You Code Jockeys!! Finally got the chance to run a test and retreive the codes from my '93 GM. I ONLY ran the KOEO part and got the following codes:
1) 111 (I guess all the relays and actuators tested ok) 2) 10 (Separation Code) 3) 332 (Insufficient EGR Flow Detected) 3) 337 (EGR Sensor Circuit above maximum voltage) OK - do the codes require an EGR replacement? Cleaning of the passage ways? If so I might as well replace the EGR since I need to remove it anyway. Or is there a sensor problem? I hate to remove the EGR since it is behind the engine is a reallly tight spot. Too bad there is no way to "Seafoam" that area without removing anything! Thoughts please......MB |

Re: "Check Engine" Light
Bite the bullet, change the EGR valve then go from there.
I'll PM you about the Rx medications & operation. |

Re: "Check Engine" Light
Sorry for the delay in responding. I've been on a true vacation -- away from work, phones, and the Internet!
Seems to me that the place to start with these codes would be the DPFE sensor, assuming your GM has one (I believe the 4.6L has a DPFE in 1993). I don't have the service manual for your 1993, so I'm not sure what the emissions system looks like on that. However, a faulty DPFE could contribute to both the 332 and the 337 code. DPFE sensors on newer Fords certainly have been a weak point, not sure about the 1993. -Rod |

Re: "Check Engine" Light
You call a couple of days a "delay" - WOW! I truely appreciate any and all helpful info and yours ALWAYS is! I have a manual (Helms, if I recall correctly). I'll check if the '93 has that sensor. As I stated before I'd hate to replace the EGR or take apart the TB elbow if I don't have to. The CEL does not come on all the time. Just once in a while and usually after high speed driving. I'll update when I have more info and again MANY THANKS!! Hope you enjoyed your vacation! MB

Re: "Check Engine" Light
mine has been going off for the past 80,000 miles. sometimes it will stay on for a few hrs/days/weeks/months. took it to auto-zone a few times to see what the problem was. they couldn't find one. so i just kind of let it go, and haven't had a problem since. the trick is you got to time it right to get it inspected, or you just unplug the battery a few min before inspection :P that usually buys me a few min.

Re: "Check Engine" Light
With an OBD-II (anything 1996 and newer sold in the US) car, you can't just unplug the battery a few minutes prior to inspection because the readiness tests will be cleared when the codes are cleared. In order for most state inspections to begin, the readiness tests must be complete. Some inspection places have the road test dyno to allow them to complete the readiness tests, but then an issue will show up and they will likely charge more if they have to complete the readiness tests.
