VSS vehicle speed sensor P0500 code

I just replaced the VSS and now I get a p0500 code. The people at autozone said it takes about 100 miles for the computer to reset. I have driven it for about 200 and still have the problem. Heres the problem: I start out and have to drive the van in 2 for it shift properly. It won't shift out of 1st when in D. Once I drive it for a few miles and then shift into D it will shift down and shift normal. Then after driving a few more miles the speedometer will start working but the check engine light stays on. Does any body have a clue as what is going on here or what I should do?

Re: VSS vehicle speed sensor P0500 code

HMMMMMm funny I have a 2001 and started feeling the transmission bump almost like a few pump going out but when I looked down the speedo said 70mph
I know I was only going 45 mph. So I guess my problem is my VSS but auto zone or Advance does not carry TRS or the VSS for the 2001. But in your case I have a feeling your TRS sensor is the problem.. Here is how I checked mine..First pull the air cleaner out of the way.. Start the van and unplug the big black sensor if you dont start the van before you unplug it wont start..its also neutral saftey switch.. Then try to put the air cleaner back the best you can. dont tighten it down takes to much time and drive a short trip around the block, if it changes normal then before, then thats your problem if it acts the same then it not your problem. But to me your problem sounds more like the TRS. Your OD light will blink fast while its unpluged. I hope I dont have big trouble...Dont wont to rebuild..
