Computer not sending signal to solinoid

I have an 89 jeep cherokee and i am being told the solinoid is not being controlled by the computer. Where is the computer located, and is there some way to check engine codes on this vehicle.

There are actually two solenoids. One is located below the intake manifold very close to the EGR valve.

The other one is near the air box, either to the driver's side or on the back. Just follow the two vacuumn hoses from the EGR valve forward around the intake and to the solenoid near the air box. It could be either one of these.

The computer is located under the dash and it is my guess that this is not your problem, it should be one of the two solenoids I mentioned earlier.
