Help! I have a 1998 Ford winstar. I toke it to AutoZone and the sales man said that two OEM codes came back P0174 and P0171. I know very little about cars. The paper I was givin said, The PCM has determined that during testing, the fuel system for bank 2 was to lean. I have no idea what that means. Do I take it to a shop? How much dose something like this cost
? I want to cry.

Re: Help
A very common situation. Here's what you need to read:
http://www.leckemby.net/windstar/windstar01.html Do *NOT* let a shop tell you that you need new oxygen sensors...

Re: Help
The 1998 windstar is not in the 1999 and newer group that the isolator bolt TSB is for.
However, it is almost certain to be a vaccum leak......so the first thing to do would be to very thoroughly inspect all the vaccum lines. Also check the big flexible hose that goes from the throttle body over to the MAF / Air filter canistor. Make sure that it is secure at both ends, and check that the crankcase breather tube.....black plastic tube which goes from the front valve cover.....around to the back side of the flex tube.....midway between the throttle body and MAF.

Re: Help
Oops - I missed the '98 part. My apologies.
Wiswind knows all; tells all!
