Occasional Jerk while accelerating

I have a stick 94 sl1. Recently, I've noticed that when I shift into 2-5 gear, the car will jerk sometimes, almost like it's about to kill, then it starts accelerating again. This usually happens a couple seconds after releasing the clutch and I'm already in gear. A couple times it even did it minutes after I've already been in said gear.

Anyone know what the problem could be?

Any help appreciated, thanks.

Re: Occasional Jerk while accelerating

I would start by cleaning the EGR and throttle body. BE aware of the location of the throttle position sensor. Have someone open the throttle for you and clean out the throttle body with some carb cleaner and some toothbrushes. Have a rag handy under there because crappy black soot will be rolling out. When taking off the EGR , beware of the gasket that is usually reusable. Ensure the EGR pintle underneath operates smoothly and seats completely. Clean out the crap in the holes the EGR ports into.

Re: Occasional Jerk while accelerating

I had a similar problem with an automatic (96 SL1 with 153K). I replaced the EGR valve but it made no difference. I found a post in this web site about hesitation during acceleration. The problem was corrosion on the ignition coil posts. On the front of the engine there are two plack boxes with wires coming out going to the spark plugs. Pull the wires off of the posts (remember where they go, IMPORTANT) and look for rust/and or corrosion. I replaced the ignition wires ($19.99 Autozone) and used sand paper to remove corrosion from ignition coil posts. Now runs like a champ.
