loose tranny dipstick '00 Civic EX

When I checked my automatic transmission fluid this past weekend, I noticed there was little to no resistance when I put the dipstick back in. It just seems to be setting there. I noticed this just before I had to make a 175 mile trip. I was nervous about it just popping out if I hit a hard enough bump, but I had to make the trip. When I got there, I checked the dipstick again and it appeared that it hadn't moved. Remarkable considering how bad I-75 is. Anyway, I'm guessing that the rubber on the dipstick has just worn down over time, reducing its effectiveness of creating a tight seal. I went ahead and ordered a new one from Honda which has arrived at the dealer and will be picked up today. I was just curious as to if anyone else has ever experienced this with their Civic trannys? If so, how did you fix it? I'll post a follow up and let everyone know if the new dipstick corrects this problem.

Re: loose tranny dipstick '00 Civic EX

My trans dipstick has been the same way since I bought my car in 2004. I haven't had any problems with it coming out at all, and I've gone over some really rough bumps. Let us know if a new dipstick is tighter, and how much it cost.

Same problem here with my 00’ EX. I keep telling myself to get a new one, for the past 3 years.

Re: loose tranny dipstick '00 Civic EX

UPDATE:
Picked up the new dipstick from the dealer and installed it last night. Fits perfectly. Nice and tight. The rubber on the old one compared to the new one did look very worn down. This part was $16.50 from Honda. The part number is 25610-P4R-A01. Honda's website for ordering parts is https://estore.honda.com Or you can just call up your local dealer and give them the part number and have them do the work for you. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions.
