Re: 99 taurus wagon power door lock problems
All the door locks share common lock and unlock wires. Well, with the exception of the driver's door for the priority door unlock, but when not active, the relay ties it to being common with the other locks motors.
If three of the 5 are not working, you might have three bad motors or bad wiring to those three. Any way you can find out if they all stopped working at the same time or if they went out at different times? -Rod |

Re: 99 taurus wagon power door lock problems
I recently had this problem with my 98 Taurus. I was told that I would have to replace the lock cylinders. NOT!! They are probably just locked up with crud. This is what I did. I first blew in some liquid wrench using the straw attachment and kept working at it with the key until it broke loose(the lock, not the key
) Then I took electrical contact cleaner and cleaned it out real good. Then after I let the cleaner dry out of the lock, I relubricated the lock with graphite. Not had a problem since. I left the door locks in place, but I ended up having to take the lock out of the trunk deck to break that one loose as it was gunked up with road dust and it didn't matter what I did. Good Luck.

Re: 99 taurus wagon power door lock problems
You bring up an interesting thought. I made the assumption that the problem was with the power locks, but it could be the mechanical side of the locks. So, murphys223, which is it, mechanical or power locks? The door lock motors don't operate the key cylinders during operation, so if the power locks work, but the key cylinders don't, GPFred is on the right path.

Re: 99 taurus wagon power door lock problems
If you'd like me to send you a copy of the power door lock wiring diagrams for you car, send me a private message with an e-mail address that can accept PDF attachments.
You're probably at a point where you need to get out the multimeter and start making measurements. -Rod |

So, you hear your locks "but nothing happens?" Is that both in lock and unlock, or if you lock the doors manually, will the power locks unlock them? Do you see any movement of the lock knob when you hear the locks trying to work? Do the manual lock levers and key cylinder work freely? Do any of the power locks work? -Rod |

Re: 99 taurus wagon power door lock problems
thanks for your interest, only the drivers door seems to open with key. Trunk, passenger won't budge, buttons move up and down with minimal effort and can hear the two back doors and pass. try to lock when car is put into drive (safety i suppose) it's weird, can the mechanism become gunked up with stuff? danka, phil from souptown USA
