lighter pulleys

Hey folks, tell me what you think about lighter pulleys. Are they as good as some companies claim to be for not that much money??

What's your experience with "underdriven" pulleys?? Any electrical problems with that?? I live in Vegas, I just can't have my AC running weak from an underdriven pulley, or is that not a concern??

Lightweight pulleys do their part, the less weight on the crank the better.

Re: lighter pulleys

Your AC should work fine, don't worry. Pulleys are good for a few horsepower, and for the price they're great. Give Vishnu's a shot, I believe they're advertised for 8awhp. www.vishnutuning.com

I haven't had any problems at all with my Unorthodox pulley. I have a TON of electronics equipment in my car (which includes a voltmeter). The voltmeter didn't change at all when I put it on. I would not recommend getting a pulley with a different diameter, just lighter-weight materials.

And yes, you can tell your car will have quicker response. I got the 3-pulley kit (alternator and waterpump). I wouldn't advise that - I think those were a waste of money. Not like you can even see them covered with a shroud and a belt wrapped around them.

Re: lighter pulleys

What does seeing them have to do with anything? Additionally, how do you know that those pulleys weren't helping (assuming that you installed all three pulleys at the same time)?

Re: lighter pulleys

This contains a dyno graph (of a mildly upgraded WRX) before and after the pulleys. I suspect that the car ad an upgraded ECU and a cat-free up-pipe before the first dyno test, judging by its barley-under-200awhp rating. The alternator pulley is available for another 95 bucks and is good for "3-4awhp". In total, if you were to get both, you could/should be good for 12-15awhp.

Re: lighter pulleys

I know this post is old but I also need info on pulleys. Unorthodox has a two 3 piece sets; both sets do not require another belt because one set has stock diameter pulleys and another has the cranck shaft underdriver (smaller) and the alternator and power steering also underdriven (larger pulley) so that also doesn't require a different size belt. They go for around 200+ on ebay for a set.
Im wondering one, is it bad for anything? The only problem I see is the crank pulley being light and firm causing it to take less vibration absorbtion. Second, If you get H.I.D which only consume 35 watts (after ignited) underdrive shouldn't be a problem with going slow and dim lights right.
Third, would you get both more torque (lets your rpm rise faster) and hp at the flywheel?
Also, this should give you a gain in mpg right?

Thanks for the comments.

P.S Im thinking of getting this, an stp short ram intake, and some kind of catback exhaust on a N/A 2.5i 06+ H4 scooby in the summer. Would a hp/torque rating of 185 from 173 be too liberal or modest?
