96 GM Squeeking front end Help!!!
Our 96 GM I just bought is now squeeking when I turn the sterring wheel and when I go over a sudden bump . I found that it is coming from the front suspendtion on both sides and from the rubber bushings . Can I spray silacone on them ? What else can I do ?? Please help. Thanks. D

Spray away. Or change the control arms. Also check the ball joints to be sure they are not also a source of the squeak.

My 98 was squeeking and it was really hard to find. I started drilling small holes in the ball joints and spraying lubricant in the holes. It finally stopped when I got to the left tie rod end.

I finally found the problem. The Idler Arm is Shot. It originally sounded like it could have been a worn out pully belt, but as my son turned the sterring wheel with the engine running, I saw and felt the idler arm with my hand and it was moving all over (up,down) the bushing was shot and causing the grinding noise all along. I bought a new one and it is made a little differant than the OEM one. The new one has grease fittings on it and it does'nt have the castle nut at the end of it where it comes down from the frame where the front part of it is mounted. Also ,the new one is twise as thick as the OEM idler arm was. I remember helping my son look for a GM or a Crown Vic and we found 2 cars with broken idler arms. This must be a common problem with them. Anyway thanks for your help. Dan in NJ.
