Two Questions

I have a '93 GM with the following two questions:

1) Does it have a DPFE Sensor (for the EGR Valve)? The HELMS Manual does not show one and I have not seen it in the car. If so I would think it would be on the firewall or very near the EGR Valve

2) I am getting a "Anti-Lock Brake" Light that only comes on sometimes. Is there anyway of reading the codes without a code reader (like the Air Bag light where you count the flashes)? MB

Re: Two Questions

Yes it has a PFE sensor, mounted on the back of the throttle body elbow. It's attached to the same bracket as the egr vacuum regulator. My manual says.....

Note: Ford does not provide procedures to retrieve trouble codes without the Super Star II tester.

If you plan on working on this car, you might be interested in this Ebay # 280099837589. This $70 scan tool will pull abs codes along with engine codes on your car. It's also upgradable for GM, Chrysler and ODB II

Re: Two Questions

I'll check on that sensor, as soon as I get a chance. As for the tester you mentioned, I checked and it does NOT test ABS codes. Too bad as it is at a good price. Many thanks....MB

Re: Two Questions

Bob, why would I tell you that this tool pulls abs code when it doesn't? Are you one of those hard to get along with types? LOL But I do own this tool and have pulled abs code with it from a 92 grand marquis and a 94 crown vic without problems. When you select any of these car it asks if your model has abs, when yes is selected it adds the abs menu to the list of options.

Or you can go with one of these for $2000

Re: Two Questions

Actually I am VERY easy to get along with. The reason I said it does not pull ABS codes is because that is what I was told by the guy selling them on EBAY. I would think he would have no reason to lie but if you have one and it does work I'd be VERY happy. Just didn't want to buy it and it already pulls the codes I already can with my reader (Innova 3145). Thanks for the speedy replies!! MB

Re: Two Questions

By the way - does it pull ABS codes from the same port as engine codes or do you need an adapter/cable because the port is different? MB

Re: Two Questions

It will do the abs code no problem on your 93, I just dont think the seller is aware of the fact,I cant see them removing the option. It's even listed in the ford cartridge manual on page 12.

Re: Two Questions

Nope, The connector for the engine is on the drivers side inner fender as you may already know. The the abs uses the same type of connector on the passenger side inner fender.

Re: Two Questions

Not a problem. This scantool is an old gem long forgotten. I bought it years back for about $350 used and fully loaded with all cartrages and cables, you might find it hard to beleave, but at one time it sold for a $1000. and like I said its upgradable, you can find cartrages with cables on ebay for around $30. The ford cartrage will also read mecs with an extra cable. It will also give you an ecm data stream on the engine side. You'll find this tool a heck of an upgrade from your code reader.

About a year ago I thought that it was time to upgrade and I bought a autoxray 6000 scantool for $400 on ebay and for the older fords it doesn't even do all the things this old actron does, no abs, no cylinder balance test notta. Then I bought a otc Genisys and that does it all plus some, still not as nice on ford as the ngs test, The ngs will be my next toy.

Let me know what you think of it once you get to try it out.
