85 G30 van bad t400 trans, can it be converted?

I have rebuilt this trans. 4 times and it just dose not seem to last! Can I convert it to a standard? It has a 2 slit drive shaft if that matters?

Why not convert to a 700R4?
And how many miles between builds? The turbo 400 has always been considered a pretty stout tranny. Is your case in good shape?

I guess about 20K, the van has over 360K on it now but it amazing what oil and filter every 3000 will do.
I think the case is good, people have told me you only get about 20K out of a rebuild. I would love to make it a standard if possible.

Dude I have run hundreds of thousands of miles between trannies, even autos. 20 thousand is pretty crappy for a rebuild on a turbo 400.
The 700R4 overdrive is an easier swap, but anything can be done if you spend enough time or money!

Do you need more cooling capacity on the transmission? Check the fluid to see if it is burning (brown discoloration and burnt smell). If nothing else, maybe there is something wrong with the case that is causing premature wear.

The 400 is one of the most durable units around whats happening to it when it goes bad!!!!!!!!
