1993 JGC L6 4.0 Cylinder head replacement
Anyone in here work on their jeeps? I just got done taking off my cylinder head yesterday, took all day but it was fun and easy. Its my second time doing this, first time was for my 87 JC L6 4.0. Now its for my 93 JGC and boy it needs alot parts to be replace, like, fractured exhaust manififold, both readiator hose, heater core hose, belt, puntured radiator. Anyone have anything to share, just make sure It get done right.
Thanx Laloquera |

You might want to check with a Jeep dealer, that exhaust manififold,IT may fall under a recall on them. I wish I had Known about it before I replaced Mine.

Re: 1993 JGC L6 4.0 Cylinder head replacement
Thanks for the reply. Just got done putting it together, only thing left is to see if it starts up. About the exhaust manifold, the talk of the town is that jeeps are know to blowing out head cylinder gaskets and easily cracking manifolds. Pulled my off, and it had three hairline fractures, I was only expecting to have one because it was only obvious that it had a crack but finding all three was to my surprise. Paid only $26.00 for it, but I had to take it off another jeep.
The onboard computer is lit up, multiple signal warning. How do I clear them or reset it? And last, my jeep is AWD all the time, the old owner removed the front drive shaft. He said it was for saving gas, is this true or should I reconnected? |

Re: 1993 JGC L6 4.0 Cylinder head replacement
Not 100%, but I was told disconnecting the battery for about 1 hour will clear codes. Other than that I figure you need a OBD1 tool that clears codes. I bought a universal OBD1 & OBD2 reader that clears codes also just to have around for the many different type of vehicles that come and go for my household. Make a few dollars checking friends vehicles also. Get $10 from them and saves them from paying about $50-$70 at a dealer.

Re: 1993 JGC L6 4.0 Cylinder head replacement
As far as disconnecting the front drive shaft, I dunno. The previous owner could have disconnected it since the viscous coupler (vc) in the transfer case was going bad. Go ahead and reconnect it, then drive slowly in a tight turn or circle. If the Jeep kind of lurches, then you have a bad vc. There are numerous posts here on how to address the issue.

Crew,
Appreciate the feedback given. The more I look the more stuff I find that needs fixing. have done list: head cylinder exhaust manifold replace spark plugs oil & filter all belts water hose front turn signal bulbs to do list: radiator replacement/repair catalytic converter replacement (California emissions) "vic" clear the codes, will probably do this last. Front drive shaft, I知 picking it up tomorrow, still not sure if I知 going to connected or not. I will fallow the instruction on your post. Does it really save gas if I leave it 2wd? Other than that, its looking good. I知 enjoying working on my jeep, I may take a brake or two, go golfing, then come back to it. I知 planning to drive in it to Mexico and cruise about the country as well in July, if all goes well. I' will keep you folks posted on my progress |

Re: 1993 JGC L6 4.0 Cylinder head replacement
Just got down pulling the old radiator out. Went out a got a use radiator off a 1995 JGC, this one is totally made out aluminum, no plastic. One less thing to do on to do list.
Peace out, Lalowquera |

Re: 1993 JGC L6 4.0 Cylinder head replacement
I've read a number of posts about the front driveshaft and there seems to be spirited opinion on the subject of whether or not to remove it. Enough people claimed serious damage happened to their drivetrain after removal that it will never come out of mine.

Wow! Sounds like serious stuff. The original owner took it off, I知 debating to leave off or reinstall it. If it was up to me, I致e would have never taken it off. Anyone else have positive or negative feed back? Its just sitting in the back of my JGC. Thank you?

Re: 1993 JGC L6 4.0 Cylinder head replacement
Hey crew,
just got done installing my new radiator, only difficult thing left to do is reconnect the bottom transmission line. The one that suppose to snap back into the radiator. Not enough room down there, has anyone done this same work on their JGC. If so, share the 411. I just don稚 want damage anything. Gratz! Laloquera |
