2000 LS Thermostat

Hello:
Can anybody tell me the procedure for replacing the thermostat on a 2000 LS? I have the 2001 manual but understand the thermostat is in a different location for the 2000. I've searched the forum and can't find the answer. Thanks for your help.

Re: 2000 LS Thermostat

Sounds like you're a do-it-yourselfer. You may want to visit www.fordcds.com and download the manual for your 2000.

I have the manual for the 2002 model year, so I don't expect I'll be of much help.

Re: 2000 LS Thermostat

Hi Rod:
I've actually tried the 2000 CD from fordcds.com and found that the file is corrupt. I believe this may be why no one on the forums has the 2000 manual. I do have the 2001 but heard the thermostat placement is different. Do you or anyone else happen to know if this is true? Thanks!

Sorry, I don't know if that's true. I don't recall reading on the forum that that is the case, but I don't recall reading that it's not the case either.

Re: 2000 LS Thermostat

Yes it is a V8, I keep wondering if the intake manifold really has to be removed, of if I can get underneath well enough. Any thoughts?

Re: 2000 LS Thermostat

nope - it is very simple 15min job.

- you drain the coolant - draincock on the lower passenger side of the rad
- you remove the three bolts holding the t-stat housing on. the cooling tower is the black tower in the middle front on top of the engine - just in front of the intake manifold. the t-stat is in the housing where the lower rad hose attaches to the cooling tower.
- pop the t-stat out

reverse to put it back together

make sure to properly bleed the system when you re-fill

Re: 2000 LS Thermostat

UPDATE:
Well guys, before I saw your message quick_LS, I decided to give it a try Saturday afternoon. I was able to fine the thermostat through my local CarQuest for $16.00. Anyway, long story short, the total job took about 1.5 hours and went very well. I did misunderstand the directions for filling and bleeding. Once I straightened that out, cars running great. As always, the information on this forum in outstanding. Thanks again guys
