01 Accent Hatch Light

The light in the hatchback area of my 01 Accent will not go off. I had to remove the bulb to save it from killing the battery. The light stays lit on the dash at all times, even when the car is off with no key in the ignition switch. If you were to step on the brake while the car is off, the dashboard light goes out. Any ideas? Where is the switch that activates the hatch light?
