Which aftermarket parts throw up codes?

Does anyone know which aftermarket parts for the 4th gen Maxima cause the CEL to pop up?

Re: Which aftermarket parts throw up codes?

Nissan* doesnt manufacture 'any' parts, it assembles whatever it can get cheapest. It requires those that it happens to purchase/sell to be stamped with NISSAN*-logo ... Before and After.

*applies to all manufacturers ('original' is a sales myth)

Re: Which aftermarket parts throw up codes?

Thanks for a quick reply. What I actually meant by that was if, for example, you get a cattman exhaust, or warpspeed y-pipe, or even the Stillen S/C kit, would you get the CEL? I know for a fact that a 3.5 swap into the 4th gen throws up codes. I also know that you dont pass emissions with the Stillen y-pipe.

Cant figure out how/why common y-pipes would cause problems ; self made protos could easily have length/tuning/flow interference problems. V6 exhaust tuning is form of 'science' I am not familiar with...

Re: Which aftermarket parts throw up codes?

no after market parts should throw codes if installed properly, a motor swap on the other hand may have some issues. i have a cat back on my car and had an intake with no SES or CEL. i also had a 4th gen with a stillen catback, budget y pipe and WR intake with no problems, and it did pass emissions once you let the cat get warm.

Really? Thats interesting...but dont the aftermarket Y-pipes delete the cats? "As race only parts, they delete the catalytic converters and are not street legal."

Re: Which aftermarket parts throw up codes?

A pipe joint has nothin to do with 'filtering'; see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catalysis

Maxima cat needs 2min at 2500rpm before full functional, this is the first phase in the test.

Btw. The whole catalyzator -technology is a alGore -class massive hoax: average drivin time for all cars is 5minutes; no catalyzator starts before that (when typically driven, under 40...). The technology itself clearly on its infancy - the reactive agents need to be real hot to start 'functioning', and they release very toxic substances to environment, mercury +etcetc.

it deletes the 3 pre cats before the actual catalytic convertor but as nahk was saying(i think) the actual cat warms after about 2 minutes and then the precats aren't really used. that's parts of the reason why y pipes show such major gains, they remove those three pre cats that restrict your exhaust flow.
