Kevlar timing belt, Hitachi HT12's

well, im starting to gather parts for a little project. Turbo upgrade and 120k maint all at once.

question 1: i think i want to go with a kevlar timing belt, but the only place that ive seen that sells them is 3SX, and they want like $180 for it, which seems outrageous. Do you guys think its worth it, and do you know anywhere else i should look?

question 2: i think ive decided to go with the Hitachi HT12 turbos (gen 3 RX-7) for the upgrade. Probably rebuilt, we'll have to see what my budget ends up being. Anyone have any experience with these? I would like to see somewhere around 400AWHP, with the supporting mods, are they capable? The car is not going to be a race/track car, its just going to be a fair weather street car. I just want that little extra something what i dip into the throttle. How streetable are the HT12s?

also, would i have to custom fab. adapters? From stealth316, it says the housing is a "bored TD-04 09B"...?

Will 550cc injectors, a Walbro 255 pump, and DSM sidemounts be sufficient?

or, should i just go with 15g because they're "tried and true"...lol

alot of questions, i know, but hey, thats why this forum exists

15g's or 13t's would be my choice for that HP level

well...i wont neccesarily be 'upset' if the number is closer to 500ATW...

i basically just dont want to get up to the point where i have to get a new clutch and worry about my t-case all the time.

Re: Kevlar timing belt, Hitachi HT12's

Don't have any opinions on the kevlar belt, but I'm considering it as well, so I'm gonna be looking into it in the near future as I just hit 60k today.

I'd also go with cheaper/easier to install turbos, why spend money on custom adapters, which will just increase price, when there are cheap routes readily available.

Clutch will start to show weaknesses with any turbo upgrade....even 13Gs. Heck, even at 15psi on stockers, you will start to notice if it's got some miles on it. You can always turn down the boost. But if you are planning a turbo upgrade...clutch is gonna need to be upgraded down the line as well.

-15Gs, 3sx aluminum pulley, FMIC, SAFC, walboro pump, EVO 560ccs, and Meth Injection Kit all waiting to go in shortly.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

Re: Kevlar timing belt, Hitachi HT12's

1. Go with the factory timing belt

2. Go with either DR650r's or DR19T's, IMO. 13T's and 15G's can reach your 400AWHP, the other two can reach it more effeciently with 500+ ability.

rockville mitsubishi, or thepartsbin.com. however, you're more likely to get ALL the right little parts from rockville, whereas thepartsbin might not have everything.
