I think a 43 is an oxygen sensor and 72 is a ambient temp sensor.

Code 12 is:
Direct battery input to PCM was disconnected within the last 50 Key-on cycles.
Code 72:
Catalyst efficiency below required level.

Code 43: Peak primary circuit current not achieved with maximum dwell time. and/or Misfire detected in one or more cylinders 1 thru 6. (4 and 6 cyls.)

I *believe* this could be something as simple as needing plugs and wires/dis cap & rotor or severe as a ignition coil on the way out. Start with a lookthrough and see if the distributor has any visible cracks or carbon tracks. When was the last time your plugs were changed?

Have you invested in a manual? Chilton, Haynes, or even a factory service manual (If you plan on being 'hardcore' ). My Haynes manual was the best 17 bucks I've spent.

Thanks for the help - car has 150K on it now - I remember taking care of plugs before 100K or 120K. Put the original champion plugs back in there and mopar wires. I would hope that wires last longer than 50K miles but in this day and age you never know.....
D cap and Rotor was done then too.....

Still But I will figure it out...
Peace and Love

Crankshaft Position Sensor would be one of my first guesses.

Scheduled Maintenance in my 93 owners manual has plugs, cap, and rotor at 30K. I'd start there and maybe lose the Champions too.

4.0 recommended plug is Champions...several threads on it.

What do you use, and have you had any issues?

Edit: sorry, don't mean to hijack the thread

Re: trouble codes 12.72.43.55 - assistance needed

Autolite 985 in my 4.0

I had a VERY bad run in with another vehicle the short story is I putzed with it nearly every spare moment for a week replacing everything obvious. I'd had the plugs out cleaned them regapped them I was ticked because the thing was dead in the middle of my driveway taking up both lanes. The Jeeps half on the front lawn because theres no room and we're getting bombed with snow I can't even run the snowblower up between the vehicles there's so little room. Swapped the Champions that were in there for Autolite and the thing fired up instantly.

That was real eye opener for me, I put Autolites in the Jeep the next weekend just because of that.
