help with fixing glass after paint leaked on it
I did a really poor masking job and now have a problem. The masking tape got wet and lost adhesion, and now I am left with this (below).
I was using rattle can black paint. How do I remove this? I have tamiya rubbing compound and 400-12000 grit paper at my disposal. I have read that one can sand this away, but I am a little nervous about ruining the shine on the glass. Any suggestions? BTW, the model is a Lindberg Chrysler Atlantic. Thanks in advance!! Re: help with fixing glass after paint leaked on it
Yikes; this is one reason I don't paint glass anymore and do the black masked areas with a chisel-tip Sharpie. It's very easy to control, and if I want flat black paint for interior detail I'll brush on acrylic flat black paint over the Sharpie. If I had to spray paint the black I'd use flat black acrylic so it could be cleaned up with window cleaner or alcohol.
You might be able to polish out the marks w/o sandpaper. Tamiya coarse, fine, and finish may very well do the job. Or Meguiars Scratch X. 800 grit is too coarse; 1500 or 2000 automotive wet/dry might be better, or start with 2400 grit polishing cloths and go all the way up to 12000 before using liquid compound.

Re: help with fixing glass after paint leaked on it
After you finish polishing out the paint bleed-over, try giving the windshield a coat of Future. You'll be amazed at how much clearer it will appear. There's a "how to" article about this in one of the latest Finescale Modeler magazines.
