Re: pros and cons

Here are some general ones about the saturn car from my experience and what i've learned after owning a saturn. I feel this applies to most of the s-series production (91-02) if not all. I should tell you that I didn't take care of my car very well so some of my statements are reflected by that. Get the opcorn: .

Pros:
Typically really good on insurance.
Great first car for the kids cuz they're slow as hell and is easy to learn how to drive stick on one.
I can't remember the name of what the body is made out of, its a sort of polymer plastic i believe is supposed abosrb bumps well.
Pretty fun to drive (mine was anyway).
Simple to work on, maybe a good car to maintain yourself.
Nice race cars for the local autocross track.
Great gas mileage. My dad was able to get an astounding 51 mpg driving in parts of Arizona with his saturn.
Saturns are inexpensive so if you just "need a car" for not much money.

Cons:
If you don't know anything about cars and/or Saturns, these cars really suck.
The market that makes aftermarket suspension products (helps at track) seems to be diminishing.
Doesn't respond all that well with performance parts.
Many burn oil riduculously.
Certain models have major defects plus these cars seem to always have problems that cause it to not run at all after some use.

Bottom line:
Good cars. You will love them if you know cars and/or know how to build engines and such cuz a saturn would probably be easy for you to work on & maintain and they're better off being maintained yourself vs some auto shops. Also is a good car that you never use that much for whatever reason (race, towed by RV). If you have it for a daily driver and don't know how to maintain it and/or how they work, you will hate them, period.
