Some 4W on dry road puts a strain on them. And some have a auto 4W mode. But good news is the ones that it hurts it usually takes more miles than 10-20 miles for it to hurt it. Matched tires or non matched tires would also plays a roll in hurting it. And remember most newer transfer cases need the fluid serviced with the gm transfer case fluid. What is the service history or mileage on yours? MT

Re: 4wd on hwy
No more miles than that and no binding up or noise I do not think it would have hurt anything.
I am not real sure on the service mileage. The 246 uses transmission type clutches for auto mode. They take the special GM transfer case fluid. I would do it at least ever 50K or if GM calls for doing it in less mileage follow there maintenance plan. Check the owners manual or your local dealer. MT
