fuel problems?

I have a 91 suburban. When my problem first started it would act like it was going to die when I would come to a stop sign or stop light. Once I got it back up to speed limit it ran alright. It progressively got worse to where now I can start it but it won't run. If I press the throttle up and down quickly it will run very ruffly but as soon as I stop working the gas peddle it dies. I changed the spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap and rotor and I checked the fuel filter to make sure it was clear. I took the fuel cap of and had my son turn the ignition key to on. I can hear the fuel pump come on. Can the fuel pump still be bad and does this sound like a fuel pressure problem?

Re: fuel problems?

Unfortunately, there is no test port on the TBI trucks; therefore, you need a special tool to test the fuel pressure. Specs call for 9 to 13 PSI.

You should also check all vacuum hoses including PCV hose. The MAP sensor should hold a vacuum (need a vacuum pump to test).

Check the EGR valve to make sure it is not stuck open.

Check PCV valve to make sure it works or replace it.

Make sure both injectors are spraying fuel. If either one is dripping, the injector or o-rings are bad.

Pickup coil (inside dist) can cause a low rpm problem when they go bad. Also check for play in upper shaft bushing of dist.

EDIT: Is the check engine light on?

Good luck.
