stalling problems
i have a 95 lesabre ltd with a 91 motor the problem im haveing is that when the car heats up to 200 it stall with no warning i have checked the thermostat and to make sure there was no air in the fluid lines i was thinking it may be the ignition module but im not sure there are no heck engine lights kicking on when this happens im not really sure what else to do the car only restarts after it sits for twenty minutes

Re: stalling problems
You should check for spark when it quits.
Then think of troubleshoot the ignition system it theres no spark. Or troubleshoot towards the fuel system if there is spark.

Re: stalling problems
we checked for spark when it quit and there wasnt one but it also has three coils that are bolted on top of the ignition module im just confused ause a friend of mine said there is no way it could be all three coils at once

Re: stalling problems
I agree with him.. unless a coil dead shorts its primary coil. That may disable the whole module and they are SUPER easy to swap out.
After a failure you may want to feel each coil and see if one is hotter or colder than the rest. This may not help but may provide a clue. Since you say it sits for 20 min and starts, you could douse the ignition module with cold water and see if your car starts. That would help identify a hot ignition module, now cool, works again. To swap out the coil takes about 3 minutes. Ignition module 30 minutes. CRanksensor 2 hours. All with proper tools of course. Popular temperature failure issue items are Coils, ignition modules, CRankshaft sensors. Ignition module is the next easier item to change. The Crankshaft sensor is a suspect. It talks to the ignition module and then back to the PCM where the PCM controls spark advance according to RPM and then tells the ignition module spark time. Good Luck

Re: stalling problems
I had an 87 that would not start after being driven, and started after cooling off. I found the radiator was clogged, causing it to run hot, but not hot enough to give a temperature light. When I parked, some component got hot enough not to work. Changed radiator and had no more problems.

Re: stalling problems
Agree 100% with HotZ
Intermittant no spark is usually ICM or Crank Sensor. Once you rule out one it's time to change the other. Another possibility is the wiring between the crank sensor & ICM but my money is betting on the sensor. |
