Ranger Transmission
I got a 93 ford ranger 3.0L 4x4 given to me and the transmission is bad. The guy who gave me the truck said it has a very rare transmission and they only made them for that year and no salvage in my area yards have any he found a referbished one for $1200 . I did some resarch on the internet and found it has a L4D1 transmission and they are very common in rangers, bronco and explorers. Is my info I came up with true or is he right? any help will be great.

Re: Ranger Transmission
This is what I come up with:
There are 5 automatic transmissions used in the Ford Ranger, Explorer and Mountaineer. The transmissions can also be identified by a tag attached to the lower left hand extension attaching bolt. The transmission codes are as follows:

Re: Ranger Transmission
when you look for the transmission you also need to consider the engine it was once connected to. the bell housings between the 3.0 and 4.0 are very different.
