Some questions for those who know a lot more than me!

Right now I am looking at 2 different 1999 Trans Ams, each under 75,000 miles. Heres my questions:

What are some things that I need to watch out for when it comes to buying them? (i.e. what breaks easily, etc.)

Is there anything I need to make sure that I get along with it?

Really I'm just trying to decide, its between the Trans Ams and a Jeep.

Btw, I live in Iowa.

If so...get the Jeep for that Iowa winter.

Trans Am.
Rear end is weak, but will be fine under stock power and street tires.
Piston slap. Known issue that really isn't an issue.
Oil consumption. Again...known non-issue.
Interior. Not the best. Wasn't meant to be.

Is it really that bad in the snow? I mean I've heard some things, but people drive like dumbasses sometimes. My buddy owns a RWD jeep (an older one, its a pos ) and it slides a bit in the snow but its not unbearable...

And yes, this would be my only car.

Have you ever tried it out, or have you not taken the beast to play in the snow?

I have a 2000 LS1 Camaro, and being basically the same car and everything I will tell you I got stuck going out my driveway in about an inch of snow. So keep that in mind. lol

I echo the snow problems as well. last time it snowed in NM my formula was stuck in the driveway on just like 3/4" of packed snow/ice. The rear end will break easy on slick conditions.

As far as anyting else, I had problems with a leaky rear main seal that I have hear is common until you get it fixed.

If you put snow tires on the back for winter it is driveable.
If it is stock.

Mine wouldn't make it down the street on snow.
Hell...I have to be careful if I get stuck on wet roads from rain.

Ya but anyways... I love these cars so much... I think I would be able to manage it, even if it did cost me a little extra for snow tires and such. I probalby wouldnt be modding it any time in the near future anyway.

Those jeeps are damn sexy too... pretty much I just want a vehicle that has some balls to it, and what has more balls than a 99 Trans Am WS6? (There's ballsier, I know, but you get my meaning.)

While the cars aren't "snowmobiles" they can be driven in the snow. I was stationed in GrandForks N.D. for 3.5 years and owned a 79 T/A, then an 85 IROC (both as my only car). I didn't have any real trouble with them in the snow. The one thing I would reccommend is that for winter driving you get narrower rims/tires, like P225 70R 15's and put snow tires on the rear. With the narrower tires you'll be putting more pounds per square inch to the ground and get much better traction.

my 92 was better in the snow than my 2000 is...then again, i did a burnout in the driveway trying to get out...lol
