Auto4WD T-case bearing (NV246)

I am going to replace the bearing and bushing on the rear output shaft of an NV246 T-case. This is the Auto4WD type case with clutches inside.

I have a few questions :
Do I need to remove the entire T-case (so also the front shaft etc...) or can I split it and replace the bearing and bushing while one side is still attached on the transmission?
Must the T-case be in Neutral ?
Any hints on what to do and what not to do

Thanks.

Mmm, ... nobody ever did this replacement?
It's for a '99 1/2ton Burb but I posted it here because more people read this forum and it is the same T-case .
