2001 sierra 1500 fuel relay

where is it and is there a bypass to check and see if the fuel pump is comming on or not. 5.3L

It started loosing power and sounding like it was backfiring thru the carb, but it has no carb, just the same kind of noise, then died on highway at highway speed. I got it home, changed fuel filter and no start.

It has spark and compression, no type of warning light came on when it died.

Welcome to AF. Right way is to get a fuel pressure gage on the rail look for 60-65 psi.

Let it sit overnight, turned key to on pos. heard fuel pump (with gas cap off) run for 2 seconds and then cut off, oil pressure not made yet.

started engine, running real ruff for a miniute, opened throttle valve a little engine running ok, let idle to warm up, taking out for test drive.
