96 Grand Caravan Reverse lights
I'm having the worst time trying to figure out the problem with my reverse light. The fuses arent blown cause it still works, but i need to put my gear stick in a certain place to make it work. I think that something is loose under the hood. pls. someone help me, i cant pass my safety check because of this problem.

Re: 96 Grand Caravan Reverse lights
On my 1990 the reverse lights are controlled by the Neutral Safety Switch. I have a 3 speed trans. The NSS is located on the front of the transmission, it screws out easily, and is available at Autozone for cheap. It's different for the 4 spd or 3 spd transmission, but it works the same. I had the same problem. It costs either $12 or $16. Good luck!

Re: 96 Grand Caravan Reverse lights
Yes, you're right, it could be the adjustment of the shifter. In any event, keep in mind this is an easy and cheap fix either way. Let us know how it turns out.

Re: 96 Grand Caravan Reverse lights
I think the Backup light is turned on by a set of contacts with in the Park Neutral Switch, when of course in Reverse. As I understand it, when the shift lever is in Park, if the indicator indicates Park and the car starts, the cable is adjusted correctly. If you have to jiggle the shift lever while in Reverse, to make the Backup lites come on I would look at the switch having some marginal contacts.
