power steering

99 GASE v6

I just got the power steering pump replaced, brand new... when first installed it made this whine noise but I was told that it would go away as the bubbles were put into the container and not the lines... today that same whine noise has came back but louder than before, theres a slight struggle when turning but Im not sure...

First guess is that its leaking power steering fluid somewhere and air is back in the lines

other guess, the pulley... when it was placed on it wasnt exactly 'flush' but good enough to run on the belt

I just wish saturday was here, I would have all this taken care of by now...

My coolant is also leaking but thats a diff story, temps stay around 210-215... 230F sometimes ehh...

Re: power steering

Did you replace teh pump or someone else?
If a shop did it, take it back and b**** !
Tell them Xero said they need to purge the air out
If you drive with a lot of air it can burn up your new pump and or the rack & pinion.
It can be a pain in the ash(PITA).

Re: power steering

yea I havent driven it to much for that reason... I have yet to check the fluid level... been mostly dark.

Last night I came home from a friend's house and took a way with less turns, hearing that pump whine sucks...

Im taking it up to kwik kar to have them fix it... Dont think its the pulley.

A few nights ago some hose blew off but I figured it was my coolant because my temp sensor gradually shot up. Not sure if it has affected the power steering indirectly or something crazy. My 2nd guess is that a hose for the power steering blew off wont know till I look later today

wish me luck, currently driving the 03 santa fe

Re: power steering

turns out its leaking out of the pump's sensor, theres the 2 pump lines I guess and below it is the sensor I was told makes a U shape... whenever its engaged heavily it just squirts out...

as long as I have fluid in there it wont be a big problem, I can make it to the stealership... guess while im there this weekend ill have them replace that as well make the pulley straight... then go on and find my coolant problem inside my dash -_- ugh...

tomorrow I get a pos rental car for a few days ha

Re: power steering

the pump is new but the sensor was re-used, it was only the pump that came in the box, along with a new pulley that made it cost more but the old pulley was trashed anyways lol... and a bolt to push the pulley onto the pump

id show a pic of where its leaking from but eh...

its nothing on the kwik kar guys, no1 around could find the sensor replacement othe than getting it from the dealership, they order parts from local auto stores

either way, dealership lol.. starting to hate them and I havent even gone there yet

Re: power steering

I see, I would have just replaced the whole pump and VAS sensor.

Hopefully they will get it fixed this time
