Can anyone own up to cyber squatting SAS?

It seems I have my very own cyber squatter!

As you probably know from a previous post some time ago, I let my domain subscription lapse with the current providers with the intention of registering elsewhere once I come to kick things off again. Now it seems someone has taken the liberty of registering scaleautostyle.com plus producing a page with the logo and 'its coming' underneath - News to me folks!

Anyway, I post this message coz I figure its very likely that its someone from the board (or reads it). I'd really like to know who it is if just to ask what date he had in mind for the SAS return because I hadn't decided upon one yet

An email to the address of the guy who registered it got no response so if anyone can shead light or own up then gr8!

Sorry to see this happen; it's very important to not let domain names expire because the vultures are out there. It's more likely to be a hustler who wants you to pay them a fortune to give it back to you vs. a friendly customer doing you a favor

Well they have no chance with me I'm afraid. I'd sooner change the domain name to something else. I just find it bizarre that someone has took it upon themselves to announce the return of SAS.

I'm going to echo the others and guess that it's just a guy that wants you to buy it back. One thing you can do at the moment is contact his provider (i'm guessing powweb.com) about him stealing your logo and they most likely can force him to remove it.

He likely has no connection to you or SAS: There is a cottage industry of people who just buy up expiring domain names, probably for half-nothing, and then charge hundreds or thousands of dollars to sell them back to the original owner. Sucks, but it's not really anything 'personal'.

I know of a couple 'minor celebrities' it has happened to, and the new owner wanted some crazy sum of money for the name back. I have had a domain name for a few years now I've been meaning to use for something, and though I have yet to get past a few tests I still pay the $30 or whatever it is per year, JIC.

Yeah, I received the reported post from the concerned individual too. Since he picked up on this thread so quickly I assume he would have done the right thing and contacted Chris directly by now. Or am I being naive?

Just to let anyone know, cybersquatting is illegal under the 1999 Anticybersquatting Consumer Protection Act (ACPA), Article 15 § 1129. The ACPA applies to all domain name registrations and can collect statutory damages from $1,000-$100,000. To avoid any confusion, this is an international/cyber law referring to all .com domains.
