'07 Grand Prix V8

My son just bought a 2007 Grand Prix with the 5.3L V8. This car has alot of balls. The steering wheel has a mind of its own when hammering the pedal. I guess it is from all the power going to the front wheels.

-What is "Active-Fuel Management" ???
-And a 5.3L translates into about how many cubic inches? 327??? 307??? Thanks for any info.

A 5.3 is 325 cubic inches. The AFM cuts out some of the cylinders when power isn't needed. Must be a heck of a transmission.

It cuts back to 4 cyls when cruising at constant speeds. It staggers the cyls in use so it isn't running on the same 4 all the time. This technology was developed by Cadillac as part of the NorthStar engine but was dropped due to reliability problems. Pontiac has been using this in the GP V8 since 2005 and seems to be fairly reliable. I haven't seen too many posts of folks complaining about it. I wanted a GXP but couldn't afford the $$$. Bought a GTP Comp G instead and I'm very happy but still like the V8s.

Enjoy the ride!!!

isn't the V8 a rear wheel drive?

Re: '07 Grand Prix V8

This car has front wheel drive with the V8. The engine has 303 H.P.

So that's what they call it....torque steer. It's like holding onto a raging horse coming out of the gates!

Re: '07 Grand Prix V8

As you know this is called torque steer. It is more prevalent with the larger engine. It was supposedly addressed by GM by putting different size tires on the front driver tires than the back tires. But it still is noticeable under a heavy throttle. It is even worse in the Impala SS. Not too much you can do about it other than live with it or buy the G8 rear driver when it comes out. With any luck that car will be a bust too so you should be able to get a good deal on one. A local dealer here in upper lower Michigan had a 2005 sit on his lot over 1 year with a $33,000 sticker. I heard it finally sold a year later for about $23,000. It's too bad the car wasn't a success given the 400hp corvette engine.
