99 Tranny Pan, Fluid And filter change

I have a 1999 plymouth voyager i noticed the other day a reoccurring spot from a leak under my wifes car wear the trans pan is i also have seen wear my wife has hit the pan with those concreate stops that mark wear to stop your car in parking lots. i have purchased a new pan and can get the filter gasket and o ring kit from napa and have suprisingly purchased 5 quarts of mopar brand atf-4 fluid from walmart. Is there any tips on the instillation? can i transfer the magnet from pan to pan? Yes or no on the RTV selant and what brand? Has anybody had a problem with a napa filter and gasket kit for trannies.

Re: 99 Tranny Pan, Fluid And filter change

I’ve changed fluid and filter on my 93, 98, 95 and friends 95. Last time couple times I used Valvoline ATF that had a slickum additive. I noticed the transmissions shifted nicer, my friend said the trans never shifted so nice ever since new. I’m a big fan of RTV I used a cork gasket once it sprung a leak in
a year, I maybe pinched it installing. The filter on the vans I did were held on by two Torx couple inches up so a long reaching Torx set nearby would be ideal. I don’t see any problem switching the magnets out. Just clean and put in pan if you need a new one I’m sure any dealer or car parts store will have. Also it’s a good time to check debris at the bottom of the pan for excessive wear.

Re: 99 Tranny Pan, Fluid And filter change

When ever I do a transmission service, I only use the dealers filter and fluid. It cost more, but at least I know that its the right stuff. The only exception is that I had to use ATF+4 last time on my 95 that required ATF+3.

Also, I'd really recommend using RTV instead of using a gasket. That's what the dealer recommends.

Best Regards,
Stan
