Re: Flat Black Spray-can

lol primer is so easy. It cant look bad(as far as badly sprayed etc) and is very hard to mess up when doing. If you want shine.....mix in a little clear then it looks gloss. That wagon is black primed in the motorcycle pics. My car was just straight out primed. So dull. But i didnt care, the rear bumper was smashed from wrecks, the rear quarter was smashed in from a wreck. The front fenders were smashed in from a wreck lol. Plus my body line was molded on the car too, and the doors were fully worked over and straightend (thats why i put them on my current car). The car was just an on going bodywork project slowly working towards paint. The jambs and under hood/hatch were all painted.

Painting isnt just sand, prime, paint, clear(how it looks on paper). There is technique to it all. If the sand job sucks and is done wrong, your paint will look like shit and be wavy as hell. The more you do it, the easier it is and the faster you get done.

Hit-n-run, lol you had to be hammered drunk, thats classic. I wasnt being "disrespectful" towards you or anything, i was just stating some things in general. People base things to much from what they see on the internet. When half the time its just some people who DIY it real fast and dont know what the hell there doing. But if a whole car is primed it looks like its undergoing work to begin with so people will just naturally think that...

Re: Flat Black Spray-can

but in all honesty paint looks 10x better in person than on pics......like my hood shots in my album. I look at them on the internet and im like wtf it doesnt look as good. It shines so much better and has more "depth" to it i guess in person.

Re: Flat Black Spray-can

no one said any of it was easy, but of course my best friend has a paint booth and my neighbor paints his cars and motorcycles with new colors and designs (hes a tattoo artist) at least once a year... so believe me i could and would get the proper work done...

Its all a matter of how much work you want to put into it, and whether you want to do it right or easy...

Re: Flat Black Spray-can

theres a thread on nico about how to do it...the guy quotes the price as $50-60...

i think primer or flat black is fine, but just remember people will notice your car more than if you had different colored body panels or an OE paint job that is in need of a respray, so if you have aftermarket goodies you better have some security features...

bikers typically call it the rat look...which includes flat black hardward/trim or gloss black trim in the place of chrome or polished stuff. If done wrong it can make the car/bike look like it's a pos, other times it just looks like a work in progress and sometimes I've seen one that looks great in a ugly way...like how an 80s van that's all moded looks cool...or a hearse...it's so stupid it's awesome

Re: Flat Black Spray-can

yea the "rat" look is ancient. Rat rods are typical style.

like my boys "rat rod" at first glance your like what a pile of shit.

but its fully built with custom frame, 4 way airride, new motor, and were touching up/replacing some interior.

Re: Flat Black Spray-can

is he planning on respraying it? its pretty cool that mechanically it looks perfect while from the outside it looks like it's barely fit for the road and all original lol...

i like it

Re: Flat Black Spray-can

if your gong to go with the primer look dont spray can it. spend some money and goto a paint shop and get a flat black primer job. there is a fine line between being cheap and appearing to be cheap

Re: Flat Black Spray-can

i used spray can by the way... right in my garage.. as long as u prep good then it will look good.. i sanded it w/ 320 grit sand paper by hand and then i went over it with 500 grit backed by a flexible pad.. then i bought a spray can adapter that you put on top of the can with a handle which helped a lot.. jut make sure you wet the floor before painting and that you clean the surface before spraying w/ prep-surface cleaner and you'll have urself a nice paint job
