noise from the right front section
00 CVPI I'm trying to figure out what would cause this creaking sound when i turn extreme left and right. it just started doing it. it sounds like old metal rubbing on a boat or a old door in a scary movie creaks. it's coming from the front right side. thanks

Re: noise from the right front section
Probably tie rod ends or ball joints. Jack vehicle up, remove tie rod ends and turn the wheel to see if the noise is still there. If the noise is gone, tie rods are bad, if noise is still there, ball joints are the problem.

Re: noise from the right front section
All of the crown vics police interceptors (98 and up)that I have driven make that noise, especially when doing a quick U-Turn.

Re: noise from the right front section
Tie rods are easy enough to check and replace. See here...
http://www.autoclinix.com/Mercury/TieRods.html My '97 had a "pop" noise when I turned too sharp. In my case it was the upper ball joints. You might check the sway bar end links as well. |

It's probably a little late now to help out mpfilms but this link...
http://www.autoclinix.com/Mercury/BallJoints.html has good info on replacing the upper ball joints yourself. I replaced mine and my front-end "clunkage" went away. |
