Muffler / Exhaust
Has anyone ever run a glasspack (ie. red hots or cherry bomb) in their I6 XJ? Is it quieter than just a straight pipe? If not, what are some good high flow mufflers to consider? Also, where can I find a 2.5" tail pipe (from muffler to back bumper)?

Re: Muffler / Exhaust
Glass packs don't seem to last. They are not legal in some places.
Try this: http://www.quadratec.com/categories/...t_cherokee.php I guess you got the jeep fixed from the flood, heh? |

Re: Muffler / Exhaust
We installed a Borla system into my Dad's Cherokee. Looks great, sounds very mellow most of the time.
He's had it on for several years and it still looks good. (There is a bit of rust on the muffler seam (hard to see) and the clamp has some rust on it.) GL

Yes, the Borla is an excellent system. I believe Mopar was selling it.

Re: Muffler / Exhaust
Glasspacks on an American straight six are gonna sound like crap....IMHO. Back before V-6's became the rage, American autos came with V-8's or I-6's...and the I-6 was the El-Cheapo motor.....and this is the heritage of the AMC 232 cu in turned Chrysler 4.0 liter. Some poor kid would get his mommy's slant-six valiant and stick a glasspack in it and it would sound.....like a six cylinder with a bad muffler. You ain't gonna get the "sound of thunder" from the Jeep 4.0L
DynoMax makes a nice cat back kit with one of their "turbo" mufflers (that actually flows quite well) and sounds good. I put one of these on my XJ over a year ago and I'm still very pleased with it. Good quality, easy to install and a good price (Borla = Expensive). The exhaust exits at the stock location and has a welded-on stainless steel tip.....cool but subtle look. 2.5" tailpipe.....check out a local muffler shop and see if they can cutom bend you one. mike 00XJ |
