2002 T&C wont start / no gauges

We have a 2002 T&C that has just developed a new problem. The van wont start, just cranks. While attempting to start it, I noticed that the gauges weren't cycling like usual when I first turn the key. Then noticed that the odometer and gear selector weren't lighting up either. So, we have no dash lights but the radio works. The headlights come on but the lights on the heater controls dont light up. We can barely afford the van so I cant take it to the shop. I am pretty handy with automotive work but dont know much about these sensors and computers. Please send advice fast, this is a daily driver.

This pops up on the forum now and then. Do a search (upper right) to read up on it. A temp fix is to smack the top of the dash a few times. If that works you have a bad connection either at the instru cluster or behind the vent control panel. If that doesn't work pull the IOD fuse for a few minutes then reinstall it. It's in the fuse box next to the battery. This will reset the Body Control Module (BCM). The BCM controls just about all the electronics in the van. Still nothing, come on back.

Haven't heard this happening on the newer vans like a 2002 , all on 96-2001 . Are you getting any codes , do the keydance and see if it shows anything . Ignition , on.off,on,off then on and watch the trip odometer for any codes and write them down .
