Why not carry on while I'm at it?! Here's a bit more progress.

Finished off the cowls for the race version. All that is left is to spray the foot peg brackets black. I took the heads up from a fellow modeler and added the numbers after clear coating. Instruction sais "do not clear coat over decals" and that is due to the fact that the chrome decals crack if coated.



Here you see the front wheels with the discs mounted. First one is from the PE set (inner section). Dunlop tire decals were crap and I have to clear these to pin them down.





Two pictures of the race version swing arm (left and right) followed by one of the test version. Decals on swing and mud guard are different and on the test version I've mounted the PE brackets and the damper fluid container from the Fork set.







Close up of the brake discs. First the standard kit one, followed by the PE set one. Mounting for the brake caliper is also PE. (Don't mind the touch up needs...)





I've made this build a comparison between standard kit detail and after market details added with the Tamiya Front fork set and the Crazy Modeler PE set. Brake disc above really adds to the look when using the PE set. Realistic metal look and just a bit more crisp than the plastic disc. That you have to buy the Fork set to get a fluid container shaped as the real thing is just madness, but the brass looks MUCH better than the painted OOB stuff.

With the PE set you also get a PE chain wich has cost me about 8 hours of work for nothing. If you like to try it I'll give you a few hints along the road.
First of all, when putting the two chain halves together, put them together with the "dotted" sides against each other I didn't...wich gave me hell trying to put the small link parts on the chain as they tend to slip away. If I had glued them on a flat surface (as intended) it would have looked better. Here is a picture with the PE chain on top compared to the plastic one.



Did you see why I had to leave this one out no matter how much work I put down on it?? Well have a look at the next picture...



I put it up side down.... I guess it will not be such a problem to take the sprocket detail off and glue it on the other side but the other side of the chain is too damn ugly due to me not reading the instructions carefully enough (as mentioned above). Links point in every direction. I'll take it as learning money and do better next time.

As last picture for this time I give you the rear screamers. They are painted enamel black followed by Alclad II polished aluminum. I could have stopped at plain aluminum as I weathered them quite hard. I used the great weathering box from Tamiya for the first time. If you havent tried it, do, you won't get dissapointed!!

Thanks for your comments Sasa and Jordan. I think I'll be able to finish these off in the near future. As you, Sasa, I also love the test liveries. If I had the guts I'd have a go at an all CF livery. But that is not likely to be happening.

Can see what you mean about Dunlop decals for wheels , would it be worth while making a mask up and painting these?
great job on the red wheel trim , I hate doing these never get them lined up the last time I did them I cut them into about 10mm pieces and put them on that way.
You will have to try a whole c/f test bike , if you have enough Patience with PE parts a whole c/f bike should be no problem. (feel the force Luke)

Yeah i would definently love to see an cf test bike. I the Ducais look awsome. I too hate putting on the dunlop/ michinen tire decals, i always find a way to screw up .

I know aucstion make one for the Michelin markings , but thought might make one out of plastic card somehow

I got the decals down using some enamel clear. One of them broke and have to be replaced but that's the easiest part. Did some more work today but photos will have to wait. Will paint the test cowls with flat clear during the week. After that it's just mounting work left.

Comming to an end here. I most say I've loved building these bikes. The Ducati is such a lovely art of engineering and design. The kit is great to work with and as always without fitting problems. Here's what I've done recently.

Front sections are done. Here's some pictures so that you can see the differences using the Tamiya fork set (test version) and kit parts. Containers were just to dark on the race bike. I tried doing them Alclad gold but ended up covering that with some orange clear to separate them in color fron the sliding parts of the fork. A tip would be to paint the containers silver and then orange clear. Notice that the Dántin team still used Brembo calipers on the test bike. A nice feature between the kits.

currently i'm building the camel '04 max biaggi's version but not sure when i'm gonna start the wip thread as i've attached the swing arm & now doing the front fork, the exhausts & the nose cowl.
