Ask them how many spares they made. They told me they didn't make any spares, which I don't believe.

Re: What should I ask BMW M GmbH in Geneva on the McLaren engine?

OK suppose a Mac blows it's engine in the 90's revival races? Or come to that I am sure McLaren would have not sold a series of GTR's for racing without spare engines as seen as engine blowups are quite common in racing, even historic racing.
I can't believe there are no replacements in case of a disaster, would certainly deter me from racing one knowing if it went bang I would be left with an expensive imobile carcase.

If there were no spare engines it would not really be a problem as BMW would still be in a position to produce what ever parts were required and I am sure the only issue regarding a complete new engine would be the price that they would charge.

As long as there's money to be made, I doubt BMW would refuse to build more S70/2s. I'm sure restarting production would command a price premium, but I also doubt that the typical F1 owner would let the car sit and rot because it costs too much to repair. Look at the people who pay $200k for a refit and overhaul when they buy a used F1...

Well, it did seem that when a GTR had engines problems, they'd just bring out an entirely new GTR to replace it.

But seriously, I'm sure they have spare parts, not entire engines. So they could do a rebuild since I doubt the block would be completely ruined and unable to be reused.
