Replacing analog mph guage

Hi All,
I have seen a lot of problems posted here about digital odometers and MPH guages not working. My analog MPH guage one no longer works and I would like to replace it, or at least try. I have a chiltons manual to follow for my 98 Sunfire GT. There is a piece of trip that needs to be popped out but am unsure how to do it before I can remove the glass plate covering the guages. The Chiltons manual does not say how to do this. Any thoughts?
Or any thoughts about this problem in general?

Thanks,
CaptK

Re: Replacing analog mph guage

so you want to replace the speedometer? Not going to happen.

The gauges are in a cluster, therefore you must replace all of them to replace one.

there are a few tutorials out there on how to remove the plastic cover over the gauges to add a gauge face.

your best bet is to buy a working cluster from the junk yard and make a note on your title of the mileage difference, unless you have a digital odo, then the computer might change it for you.
