98 Setra - Doors lock when starting - Is this normal ? Can I disable ?

I just got this 98 Sentra for my girlfriend's daughter. It has a remote starter.

The doors lock when I start the car. Is this normal and can I disable this ?

This will be trouble because we live up north and warm up cars in the winter. The salesman already locked the keys in the car once.

i would talk to whoever installed your remote start, they wire it into your alarm/ door locks, does it lock them when you start the car without the remote start?

So, I'll assume that they don't lock like this from the factory.

The remote start was installed when we bought the car. I'll have to find someone who can figure it out or disconnect it myself.

No, it doesn't lock them when I start with the remote.

If you can figure out what brand of remote starter it is, I may be able to help you program it so that the ignition-controlled door locks are off.

The remote is a DEI Valet RPN471T.

Sorry, I'm actually going to need the model number of the remote starter itself, not the remote. If you look under your dash with a flashlight, you should be able to see the module. Should be black, possibly with a DEI logo on it. The model number should be printed on the side. Let me know if you find it.

Thanks for the offer to help. I took it to a shop nearby and they reprogrammed it for $20. I'm good to go.
