2000 celica starting problems and bogging down

hey everyone
my girlfriend's 2000 celica gt is having some problems. i know nothing of the celica haha. but anyways it takes like 10 minutes to start. it will click. but eventually it turns over. and then you have to pump the gas in order to get it to start once it turns over.
also in any gear at like 3500 rpms, it starts bogging down.
any suggestions? thanks

Check the connections to the starter. Make sure they are clean and secure. If it is not the connections to the starter, it maybe the starter motor. Bushings in the starter will wear and bind preventing the starter motor from turning. If you get a click and the starter doesn't turn, try hitting it with a hammer and see if that knocks it loose.

Why is it bogging down- Have you checked for any trouble codes? Did you check the air filter to make sure the motor can breathe? When was the last tune-up?

try changing the fuel filter and verifying fuel pressure from the fuel pump. My celica was having the same problem and that helped a lot. Also check the wiring and grounds to the battery and starter for corrosion, and ignition coil and spark plug wire resistance. good luck !
