passkey wire locations
need help............can't seem to locate the 2 wires that read the resistance
on the ignition key. i dropped the panel under the drivers dash and looked at all the wiring coming down off the steering column and just can't locate them. any suggestions where to look next. i know they come from the key but i really don,t want to take my steering column apart..........help!!! |

Re: passkey wire locations
Im assuming its a model with the resistor pill in the key. I can tell you colors. I think.. Purple/white and white/black.

Re: passkey wire locations
I don't know for sure about yours since I do not know your year, but on my 93 Lesabre, the Pass Key Module is behind the glove compartment. The glove compartment has to be removed to get to it. I had to move the Pass Key Module out of the way when I was working on a heater problem.
This would be an good location to install the resistor - easier than messing with the steering column. I plan on doing that myself the next time my wife looses her resistor key ($25.00 - ouch!). I confirmed the wire colors given by Bass using the 93 FSM. The colors are PPL/WHT on terminal B7 and WHT/BLK on terminal B8. These terminals are on the Pass Key Module. |

Re: passkey wire locations
question- if u install a resistor on the pass key module can u still use your resistor key, or do u have to always use a blank key?

Re: passkey wire locations
You need to use a key without a resistor if you install a resistor on the terminals of the passkey module. According to what I found (possibly on this forum), an AXXESS Brand Key Blank #4 should work. I've seen these blanks at Lowes. You'll need to find someone who'll cut the non resistor key blank for you using your existing resistor key as the master.
You will need to test your present resistor key with an ohmmeter to find out the resistor value you'll need to connect across the Pass Key module terminals. For my car it's a 1.87 KOhm but each car has one of about 10 different values. Good luck. Edit: The above was assuming you did not disconnect the wires going back to the steering column. If you disconnect these wires then either key should work, the old resistor key or a regular key as HotZ28 states below. I had not noticed that the wires were on a separate connector. Thanks HotZ28 for setting me straight and for finding the values. Last edited by mcqueary; 02-18-2007 at 02:29 AM. |

Re: passkey wire locations
The B/W & P/W wires should be within in a colored jacket, usually orange, but can vary in color from car to car and are light gauge wires. There should also be a small two wire connector, located at the base of the steering column.(don’t confuse the yellow air bag connector for the lock cylinder connector). Listed below are the fifteen resistor values used by GM. The bypass resistor must be within +/- 5% of these values. The existing resistor key will work with the bypass in place if you disconnect the connector, or you can have a blank key cut without a resistor and leave it connected, it is your choice. Remember, if you choose to bypass the key reader circuit, the security system will be compromised!
