You may still want to get the new download for the 'puter (PCM). There may be a change in the way it controls the motor such as a milasecond change in engagment timing or a wait command that holds enagement until other readings occur with conditions that will prolong the life of the new encoder motor.
Also a new download may have other fixes included, kinda like updating the Windows on your PC. Like all software and firmware, there's always room for improvement. I'd go for it if the service bulletin says to. |

Re: 2002 Bravada AWD won't disengage...
I have had this problem at least twice with my 2002 Bravada the last time it was still under warranty. I found the repair order and it shows that the dealer replaced the "sensor in encoder motor" and "transfer case encoder" Also it looks like they replaced the motor asm and a gasket. The order also says that they reprogramed the PCM. Hope this helps. By the way the problem has come up again. I am told that this problem is a reacurring one and that we Bravada owners can expect it every couple of years.

Re: 2002 Bravada AWD won't disengage...
Has anyone looked into making the transfer case manual, like the TrailBlazer's and Envoy's? I'm trying to find information on this and I can't find any. My understanding is that these transfer cases are identical, from a GM Mechanic.
I would just prefer to control whether it should run in 2wd, 4hi/4lo or rarely, auto. |
