240 Newcomer needs help.

Hey guys, I'm a recent convert from dsm's to 240's. I just bought a 95 240 and got a great deal on it. So far the only problem I've come across is the tachometer. Sometimes it'll work just fine, but more often then not the needle will just bounce all over the place like crazy. The motor isn't reving when the needle does this, it just an erratic needle. If anyone has heard of this or has some suggestions on what I could check, I'd really appreciate it, thanks in advance.

Quentin

Re: 240 Newcomer needs help.

has any serious engine work been done to it lately?
i'd check any grounds that may have been touched or that may be corroded. it could also be a cut/corroded wire behind your dash.. if anything, check the starter ground first.
