help

so i got into my 94 gt and i noticed that a few of my icons were lit up (low coolant, break, and another one) also, i i had the lights on and the whole dash seemed dimmer than normal, and the gauge which has the battery voltage was at like 10 when normally its at about 12. so as im going down the road, the voltage seems to keep going down. and after like 15 min, it jumped down to like 7 or 8 and the radio went off and such. i cept going and made it to my destination, but does anyone know what may be wrong, im sure it probably wont start tommaro, and o, also could cold have anything to do with it, its like 10* right now. O, and the voltage did seem to jump a little when the rpms went up, so im thinking that would mean the alternater is working? anyways, any ideas would be appreciated. thanks.

Re: help

Low coolant probably means you have low coolant and the brake light means that you need to put some more brake fluid in the resevoir. Sounds like it may very well be the alternator going out. But before you just start throwing parts on it get it checked at O'reilly, Autozone, Napa, etc along with the battery while your down there.

Re: help

Lots can happen in 3 weeks. If you are losing coolant (what was the reason you filled up 3 weeks ago???) you will continue to lose coolant if the problem isn't fixed...and the light will come on.

Brakes can be just the same. Why was it low to begin with? When pads wear down, the pistons expand outwards, and the fluid level lowers int he master cylinder. Pads can wear down alot in a month. If you are sure it's not the fluid level and your parking brake isn't engaged. Then take apart the parking boot and inspect it.

Granted it's possible both the coolant and brake fluid level sensors are both busted...but kinda unlikely.

And it sounds like your alternator is going. SL is right, go get it tested.

Re: help

All those lights lighting up as well as the low voltage indicates a dead altenator.
