how do i change oil 1998 zx-11

i would like to change the oil on my zx-11 myself. can anyone tell me or point me to a website that tells me how? thanks.

but if i'm not mistaken.....
it should be the same as any other bike. get a sump pan under the sump plug and remove the plug. drain all the oil out. if you change the filter then remove it after you've drained all the oil. (handy home hint #1. wrap some tin foil around the exhaust before you start. it'll stop oil burning onto it later).

put the sump plug back in.
put some oil in the filter and smear the o-ring with oil for a good seal. tighten hand tight.

now fill it up through the oil fill plug hole. do it slow and check level by grabbing the front brake and pulling the bike upright to see the level in the level window. (both filler hole and window should be on the right side)
once its between the level lines, start the bike and let the oil get pumped around and back into the filter. stop the engine and check again . my bike takes 3.5 liters so i got no idea what that is in yank-non-metric-crap.

you will have dribbled oil over the exaust. wipe it off and if you've followed handy hint #1 remove the foil and you have a clean exhaust.

Looks like it uses the internal type filter...there will be a cover and bolt (right side of diagram) in the bottom of the engine case. Put it on the centerstand, loosen the bolt and the cover will pop and the oil will drain (big mess probably)...take the bolt and cover completely out (watch for the spring and washer, don't loose them), the pull the filter cartridge down and out. It may fight a bit...sometimes you have to grab it with something...there's usually a tang on them you can grip/pry against...when it pops out, there will be another surge of oil mess...ignore that and pay attention to the arrangement of any springs or washers that come out with it...

Then make sure the new filter is facing the same direction, push it up in there until it seats, and replace the cover and bolt, replacing any o-rings they give you with the new filter (if included). Fill to mid line of sightglass (I assume it has that), start the motor and let it run for 30 seconds or so, checking for leaks, the shut it off and let it sit a minute...then recheck level and top off to full line....

Hopefully you don't have to drop the exhaust header or something for clearance, I'm not familiar with that model...

Looking at the pic, on that arrangement since there's so many parts (bolt, washer, cover, o-ring, spring, small washer, filter) you'll probably just end up stacking it all on the bolt in order, then shove it up all together. You'll see when it comes apart how it has to go...the important thing is just not to forget a piece....there's usually some kind of guidelines included with the filter cartridge if I remember right...

I said the filter might fight you...probably not, looks like the bolt actually is what it seats on, so it will just be drawn out with the bolt and cover all at once is my guess..

Ignore that subassembly box showing the bolt in pieces...the bolt contains the check valve and related parts, but will come out as one whole piece...you won't be messing with any of that...
