Swap Factory Stereos in 04 Xterra: Installing OEM 6 Disc Changer
I took out the OEM factory AM/FM/CD unit and installed an OEM factory 6-disc changer that I bought on eBay. The eBay vendor assured me that it was taken out of a 2004 Xterra. I have the same volume problem that others are stating in this forum. I have the following question for anyone that may know.
I read about the difference between 2 and 4 ohm speakers so I stayed with an 04 OEM stereo when I did the swap. Is it possible that Nissan installs 4 ohm speakers with the single-disc unit and 2 ohm speakers with the 6-disc Rockford Fosgate unit? We just can't get nearly the volume out of the 6-disc unit that we were getting out of the single disc unit. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Take a speaker out, the spec will be on the magnet.

Re: Swap Factory Stereos in 04 Xterra: Installing OEM 6 Disc Changer
the 02-04 SE xterras with the stock Rockford Fosgate systems include a 300 watt amplifier installed in the console beneath the head unit. I don't believe the actual harness is any different between the RF and non RF head units, but for the RF units it definitely runs through the amplifier before it goes out to the speakers. Chances are, it's a line out that is going to your speakers (or a toned down volume) to be sent normally through the stock RF amplifier.
I imagine the ebay seller just didn't think about the head unit requiring the stock amplifier to have decent volume. waltman |
